Reproducible house edge figures

One source puts Ultimate Texas Hold'em at 2.19%, another at 0.53%. A $10 Ante player multiplies and gets $0.22 a hand from the first figure and about five cents from the second. Which is right? Both, as it happens: the first is measured per Ante, the second per dollar of total betting. Without the inputs behind each number, nobody reading them could know that.

Reproducibility starts with a full description of the wager: the possible outcomes, what each pays, any commission, how pushes are handled, and which player choices affect continuation. A rounded percentage carries none of that.

The calculation method comes next. Exact enumeration weights every permitted outcome and gives a precise answer. Simulation runs many generated trials and gives an estimate with sampling error attached; ten decimal places on a simulated result are decoration, not precision. An operator's published statement is a third kind of evidence again, weaker than either an independent calculation or the rule document itself.

Finally the figure needs its base and its strategy assumption. Loss per initial stake and loss per total money wagered are different numbers for the same game, and optimal decisions produce a different result from casual play. Recording those two items turns most apparent disagreements between sources into simple differences of convention.
